Audlem Parish Council is looking to co-opt two new Councillors and invites applications from residents who want to help shape the future of our community.

Apart from the fact that applicants have to be over the age of 18 and meet certain criteria (please see the PDF below the article image for details) Councillors can come from all stages of life. You don't have to be retired or have lots of time on your hands (although there is a lot to do). You don't have to be connected to a political party – in fact, Audlem Parish Council prides itself on being apolitical.

So, what does being a Councillor involve?

Being a Councillor is interesting, challenging, often frustrating but also immensely rewarding.

Councillors work to ensure the views of the community are heard on issues such as planning, highways, law and order, and the environment. They manage the budget to ensure that the correct level of precept is applied for so that local groups can be supported, the public conveniences (and soon, the playing field complex) are properly maintained, and the Parish assets are in good condition. Councillors worked with the community to draw up our Neighbourhood Plan – one of the first in Cheshire East – which helps protect against speculative, unplanned development.

If you have never attended a Council meeting you are welcome to come and find out more about what happens at 7.30pm on Monday 6th November in the Methodist Rooms, Shropshire Street. If you would like an informal chat about the role please contact any Councillor (link).

Please send a letter of application, explaining why you are motivated to apply and a little about your life and interests to audlempc@gmail.com by Saturday 4th November 2017.
