Overwater Festival Weekend

The Overwater Festival weekend brought plenty of music, laughter, and community spirit to the Shropshire Union Canal over the August bank holiday weekend, raising thousands of pounds for local good causes.

The weekend began with the annual Charity Quiz Night and Hog Roast, which raised more than 3,000 for two much-loved local charities: Overwater Wheelyboat Services and the Audlem Lass.

Many of you will have used the Audlem Lass, a volunteer run service that operates along the Shropshire Union Canal between Overwater Marina and the bottom of the Audlem Locks. The raises funds for the RNLI through passenger donations service and runs every weekend from Easter until late October, providing a popular link into Audlem from Overwater.

Overwater Wheelyboat Services is a volunteer-run charity based at Overwater Marina. It provides accessible canal trips for people with disabilities using a specially designed Wheelyboat and offers adapted transport to help people access local services and the marina.

On Saturday evening, the marquee was handed over to the Audlem Music and Arts Festival team for the return of Elvis night, featuring Audlem’s very own Paul Larcombe’s with his popular tribute show. Sunday’s Comedy Night brought another lively evening, with four comedians entertaining the audience. Both evenings helped raise funds for the Audlem Music & Arts Festival, the free annual village festival held in Audlem over the Spring bank holiday weekend.

A spokesperson for Overwater Marina said: “We are delighted that the Overwater Festival weekend has once again brought people together for such a positive purpose. From the quiz night to Elvis and comedy, the support shown by everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, and helped organise the events has been fantastic. The money raised will support Overwater Wheelyboat Services, the Audlem Lass and the Audlem Music & Arts Festival, helping these local organisations continue their valuable work.”
