Preparing for the General Election!

We invited Rachael Dodgson (the North West Parliamentary Outreach Officer) to school on Tuesday to work with the children in Key Stage 2 to develop their understanding of Parliament and democracy.

The children found out about debating, elections and voting and learnt a great deal about the work of the Houses of Parliament. The children discussed and saw how MPs, the Prime Minister and the Queen make laws for our country. The children then took part in their own debating, voting and election activities.

This was a great opportunity for us to focus on current news in the run up to the forthcoming General Election and the children had great ideas about what they were learning – perhaps there are one or two future Members of Parliament in our midst!
