In September last year, Cheshire East Council refused planning permission for twenty dwellings on the site known as 'Adjacent to Birds Nest' off Nantwich Road on the northern boundary of the village. This then went to appeal in an attempt to overturn the decision. It has now been announced that the Planning Inspectorate has refused that appeal.

The decision was made by Siobhan Watson, the PIan Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government following an appeal made by Mr & Mrs Tonks against the decision of Cheshire East Council.

The grounds for the decision were that the Inspector concluded that the proposed development would harm the character and appearance of the countryside. Consequently, it would conflict with LP Policies NE.2 and RES.5 which, in combination, seek to protect the open countryside. It would also conflict with NP Policy H1 which seeks to restrict new housing outside of the settlement boundary.

In addition the Inspector concluded that the proposal does not make adequate provision for affordable housing and consequently was found to be conflict with the IPS and NP Policies H6 and H7.

You can read the full decision by clicking on the PDF to the right below the map..

Audlem Parish Council fought hard to prevent the application and doubtless many residents will be pleased with this result.

AudlemOnline hopes to be able to publish comment from the Parish Council when it is available.
