Next Long Ramblers Walk

Steve Elliott is leading the next Long ARS:-
LongARS – Sept 19th – Lathkill Dale Departing Audlem Car Park at 8am
A fairly gentle 8.5ml or 9.3ml circular walk with 1079ft of height gain. Usually dog friendly but maybe a few sheep or cows about.
Only a couple of stiles.
We park in Youlgreave at Coldwell End Car Park (DE45 1UY) – public toilet and free parking – usually an honesty box. asking for 3
We turn left out of the car park and then take path on the RHS to walk down to the River Bradford, over the bridge and then head west along the river, past several weirs to reach a stone bridge. (1ml)
Cross over and up Lomberdale to reach a lane. Turning right along the lane for 500yds, across a short field to another lane where we turn left. After 100yds there is stile on the RHS. We climb quite steeply across a field until we reach Moor Lane car park. Go left and then across the field to reach Calling Low Farm and then we descend to reach Cales Dale. We turn right and quite steeply descend a few hundred yards to reach a footbridge and Lathkill Dale.
If there is water flowing in the dale, we can take a short diversion west to see the where the river Lathkill emerges from a cave (4ml from the start)
We then turn back east and follow the lovely Lathkill Dale past a variety of caves for 3+ miles stopping for lunch on the way.
After 7ml we cross the river at Conksbury Bridge and after gentle rise up the road we turn left to pass through woodland. When we reach a lane, we either turn right along the lane towards Youlgreave Church and then turn right back to the car park, or we stay on the footpath and take the optional 3/4 mile extension into Alport and then back along the River Bradford and up to the car park.- we will decide on the day with the group as to which route we take
