In memory of Vanda Clemes
This week we come together to remember and celebrate, Vanda Clemes. Our thoughts are with Henry, Jenny, Layla and her extended family at this very difficult time.
Vanda was an important part of ADAS for many years. She joined Audlem in Bloom subcommittee in the January of 2014 and helping with the seasonal flower selections as well as the refurbishment of the flower beds and borders in the centre of the village.
Vanda and Henry grew to be at the heart of Audlem Open Gardens, becoming a vital part of the organising committee, and by opening their own beautiful gardens to visitors. Vanda was a driving force behind the event, making sure there were enough gardens and volunteers for the weekend to go ahead come rain or shine.
After joining the main ADAS committee, Vanda worked with David Latchford, Irene Price and others to bring Choral evenings to St James Church. She was also a key organiser of the ADAS 50th anniversary celebrations, held at The Lord Combermere.
In the last five years, Vanda and David and many others set up the Audlem Village Fete, which has since become an annual event that celebrates all that is good about Audlem.
Much of Vanda's tireless work for ADAS, whether for Open Gardens or the Fete went on behind the scenes and may not have been seen by many. It was deeply valued by everyone who worked alongside her. She always had a new idea, or a new way to fund an event, and her drive and determination to see things through will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts are with Henry and all of Vanda's family at this very sad time.
