I am a Parish Councillor from Dodcott-cum-Wilkesley Parish Council and I have been lobbying for more than two years on the issue of post-16 school transport.

My persistence has finally paid off in that the topic for discussion at Cheshire East Rural Summit – 5 is 'Focus on Rural Transport and Youth Employment.' (See PDF below photo for details)

I am hoping that Parish Councillors from the surrounding area and any other interested groups will attend this meeting not only in support of parents who have to face this iniquitous 'teenage tax,' but also to encourage the council to undertake a review in the light of the 'rural proofing policy' which now applies to all Council decisions.

Councillor Rachel Bailey has informed me that the cost of school transport is not a problem in the other wards that she represents. I beg to differ and I would appreciate any comments, questions or suggestions from local parents so that I can raise the issues at the meeting on Monday.

Rachel Bailey's email about the event is below.

I will feedback from the meeting through AudlemOnline.

If you have any comments please could you e-mail me at bmfpost@btconnect.com

I am also happy to lift share with anyone who wishes to attend as accessing rural transport to Knutsford for 9.30am could be challenging!

Rachel Bailey's email:

Dear All,
As a Residents First Council we want to ensure that we fully meet our corporate objectives – and in particular 'our local communities are strong and supportive', when engaging with rural stakeholders.
An effective way to create and maintain communication with these groups and individuals has been through hosting regular rural summits, with a programme that allows for information sharing, highlighting funding opportunities, and both learning exchanges and networking between the participants.
We therefore want to ensure that each Summit focuses on a relevant theme that can highlight good practice and encourage those taking part to suggest positive solutions to any challenges, and to use summits as a mechanism to consult with all rural stakeholders and ensure their voice is captured, heard and acted upon.
Therefore, please see attached 'Cheshire East Rural Summit 5 ' flyer' giving details.
Regards,
Cllr Rachel Bailey
Portfolio Holder for Children's and Families
Cheshire East Council
