This year's National Butchers Week – Monday 24th March until Sunday 30th March – is focused around attracting the younger generation to shop at their local butcher's shop – teaching the "internet generation" how to shop for meat.

The Meat Trades Journal have created an "Idiots guide to the butchers shop" trying to encourage young people to pluck up the courage to visit their local butcher's – simply click on the file to the right to open it..

I am unconvinced that calling this generation "Idiots" is the way forward but I think the concept of educating them, explaining different cuts and how much to ask for is a good idea.

At Oxtail & Trotter we have a wide age range of customers using our shop and we are happy to serve customers in lbs & ounces, kilos or by the handful (or what looks "about right" – "but maybe take another bit off that Simon!"). It really is that simple- making it easy for the customer to buy, and to ask questions.

If any AudlemOnline readers who are not currently customers (although we welcome regulars too!) would like to try us out, please pop in – no obligation to buy – and we would be more than happy to answer any questions about our products, where they come from, how they are grown and what cuts are best for which dish.

National Butchers Week is all about making our business more accessible to all and in line with what the butchery trade is trying to achieve this week we are happy to offer a 15% discount* on all orders placed through our Order Ahead facility online this week (for collection & payment in store).

*(Not to be used in conjunction with any other current offers in store)
