Carer's Week

Once again this year, Audlem & District Community Action (ADCA) is supporting Carers Week in our local area. Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign to bring caring out into the open. The theme for this year is – 'Making Caring Visible' – by recognizing the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Here in the Audlem area, on Tuesday, 9th June, ADCA's staff and volunteers have arranged to deliver picnics from the Lord Combermere to the 79 local carers we support and to the people who they care for. This includes some new carers whom ADCA have started to support through its Coronavirus Home Support Service. This activity is funded through the Carers Breaks Grant ADCA received from Cheshire East Council. We still have some eleven delivery slots available for local carers, so if you care for someone on an unpaid basis and would like to join in our 'virtual' picnic then please contact Lynn Morear, ADCA's Assistant Coordinator, on 07376 070586 or email her at lynnmorear@yahoo.co.uk before Saturday, 6th June.

There are 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers. They are looking after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or who needs extra help as they grow older. Caring impacts on all aspect of life from relationships and health to finances and work. As carers are experiencing even more challenging circumstances this year as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, with many carers increasingly taking on more, it is vitally important that we both recognize the contribution that carers make to their local communities. It is also important to connect carers to information and support to help them manage their own health and well-being.
