A New Half Term and Spring is in the Air!

How lovely it has been to welcome the children back to school with lighter mornings and a hint of Spring weather, I hope it has given us all a 'spring' in our step as we begin another half term together!

As we begin a new half term I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some of the ways you can continue to support your child in school:

Attendance and Punctuality: It is important that your child attends school regularly to ensure they do not miss out on important parts of their learning. Punctuality makes a great start to the working day and we cannot stress how much children are affected if they arrive late. The feeling of uncertainty and worry often impacts throughout the entire first lesson. Please let us know if you are having problems getting your child to school on time.

Look Smart: Wearing School Uniform makes a statement which helps unify all our learners. It says 'we belong, we have a shared identity, and we're ready to learn'. It's all about feeling smart right from our heads to our toes! PLEASE label your child's clothes! It makes a big difference when looking for lost property.

Supporting Learning: Please ensure that children are well prepared by supporting with Home School activities. The key is little and often to help embed those important learning foundations. Our Home School Books are a vital part of the communication system, signing the weekly record and commenting on your child's reading or work at home will really help us work together to aim high for all of the children.

Keeping Healthy: Children in school have regular access to clean fresh water to keep them hydrated throughout the day. Please ensure you child brings a named water bottle into school every day so they can access this. Thank you for your on-going support with this.

This week's Praise Book children are:
Mrs Hayward's Class – Sofia Bryant
Miss Danha's Class – Olivia Deville
Mrs Richardson's and Mr Morrey's Class – Ella Carter Mrs Stoker's Class – Liam Cunliffe
Mr Perry's Class – Varuna Sharma Brymer
Mrs Bird's Class – Holly Gregory Congratulations to you all!

Well done to Bradley Gibbons (Lime), Esther Wilding (Oak), Owen Lewis (Rowan) and Molly Sullivan (Alder) who are our new Team Captains for this half term, they began their duties in Praise Assembly today and I am sure they will inspire their teams to collect lots of Team Points this half term.

We also have two new Tidy Team monitors, Harry Cottrell and Matthew Malkin will be checking classrooms each week – I am sure they will do a great job!

Our High 5 Team represented us marvellously on Wednesday evening at Brine Leas as they competed in a tournament. The team came 4th overall, here are a few words from Annie and Amber who are members of the team:
"We won two matches, lost two and drew one. Every half we swapped positions and tried our best to win!'"

Congratulations to everyone who took part! Many thanks to Mrs Stoker and all of the family supporters for cheering the team on.

News from FASA

Many thanks to all of the families who supported our FASA Film Night last night. The children had a great time enjoying both the film and food! Well done to the FASA team for yet another successful fundraiser.

Date for your diary!
FASA are busy preparing for a special Easter event on Wednesday 23rd March. It will be held after school from 3.15pm – 5pm and will include a range of Easter activities and stalls including an exciting Easter Egg Hunt! We hope you will be able to join us for this.

ABC Childcare

The children that attended holiday club had a great time planting flower and vegetable seeds,
exploring different textures and trying out new foods as well as learning new magic tricks!

There has been a great response to the after-school clubs offered by ABC. It's not too late to register for the clubs as there are some spaces left. If you'd like to book for next week and following weeks please contact ABC on 01270 748081.

Polite reminders

I would like to remind all parents and carers that it is our policy to ask that all children are absent from school for 48 hours from their last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting. This is to prevent other children and staff becoming ill. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

A reminder that, in the interests of safety, children bringing scooters or bikes to school are not to ride them within the school grounds. They must be wheeled to and from the bike store and only mounted once outside the school gates.

In the interests of health and safety we ask that no dogs are brought on to school grounds at drop off and pick up time (carried or walking on a lead).

Reaseheath Lambing Weekends

Reaseheath College are opening their doors for two special weekends to share the springtime lambing experience with families across the area. These special weekends will be on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th March and Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th March from 10am – 4pm. For tickets visit: www.reaseheath.ac.uk/lambing

Parent/Teacher/Child Reviews

A reminder that these reviews will take place next Thursday during an open afternoon and evening (1.30pm-6pm). Parents and carers can come in at any time to celebrate their child's achievements, share books and chat to staff.

The aim is to enable parents and carers to discuss their child's achievements, evaluate progress and discuss next steps in learning with your child so that we are all working together to ensure the best outcomes. Your child's new targets from their teacher will be made available for these sessions and class teachers will be available throughout the afternoon and evening for you to speak to with your child.

Some of our Governors will be available to meet and speak to parents and carers during this time. These sessions are a chance for you to share your views and also to find out more about the important role Governors play in our school.

Finally

I met with the Chair and Secretary of the Parent Forum this week to set the agenda for our next meeting. The meeting will be held on Tuesday 8th March from 7pm – 8pm in the school hall. Thank you to those parents who have suggested agenda items. Agendas will be sent out to all families early next week.

The Forum is YOUR Forum, a chance to ask school about any areas of school life you are concerned about or wish to celebrate. Please send any comments about agenda items you would like to have discussed at this meeting into school. You can do this via the reply slip on the agenda, by email or by sending a note into school in your child's reading folder. I look forward to seeing you there.
