There has been a spate of IP address lockouts on the website recently – individual users will get a message like the one shown here, preventing them from getting access to the website.

We think the cause is a new piece of software designed to protect the website from outside malignant interference, which is being a bit over-protective and locking people out unnecessarily,

It is a trivial (but boring) task to unblock a specific address and so, if you get blocked in this way, please let us know the IP address quoted on the message we will get it unblocked as soon as we can.

Meanwhile the technical wizards are trying to tune the algorithm better so as to prevent this happening.

It is interesting to learn from the powers behind the website server that the server processor is having to deal with literally thousands of messages generated by "bots" that have nothing better to do than go round trying to find gaps in the defences of online websites, in some cases it seems just to cause mayhem..
