Showcasing Talents and Super Skills!

We were treated to a wonderful showcase of talent and skills on Monday as children in Key Stage 2 presented some fantastic gymnastics work to a packed audience. I was delighted to see all of the children work so well both as individuals and small groups and their collective light really did shine as they thrilled the audience with rolls, jumps, balances and flips.
Many thanks to all of the children and teachers who worked so hard to present such a wonderful display.

On Tuesday we had a special assembly with Bryony and Mike who came to speak to us all about our special Purple Millet growing challenge! ADAS have provided young plants for all of the children (and staff!) to see how tall we can get each one to grow. The plants will be sent home before the end of term – I can't wait to see the results after the summer holidays!

Tuesday afternoon saw our Key Stage 2 children putting their language skills to good use as they experienced St James' French Café.
Waiters and Waitresses from Year 6 helped to serve and take orders (in French of course!) and
it was a wonderful experience for all of the children – here are a few of the things the children said:

"I really liked when we were served by the waiters – I loved everything'
'It was like we were really in a French café and it helped my French'
'It was a bit unusual but lots of fun!'
'I liked it because it reminded us of the words we should say'
'The waiters were spot on! They were very kind in French.'
Thank you to Mrs Standley and Mrs McKee, ably supported by our School Cook, Mrs Hayward and Mid Day Assistants Mrs Shannon and Mrs Gavin, who worked so hard to plan and help with this special learning event.

Year 6 children have spent this morning at Brine Leas taking part in a a special languages event together with other primary schools in our cluster. As part of the morning, they presented their own French Café scenes and sketches, which they have learnt as part of their French work in school.
Our Green Team have had a busy week. They have met with Eleanor Lilies to discuss how they can help develop the conservation area in Audlem and worked with Mrs Feest (one of our School Governors) on Tuesday to set up our school wormery. They are also busy putting together a special Green Team noticeboard and working hard to try to achieve their Bronze Eco Schools Award.

It was great to see so many parents at our handwriting workshop yesterday, this provided an opportunity for us to share the handwriting style we have introduced across school and allowed parents to try their hand at the letters and joins themselves. Feedback from the session was very positive and we have put the handouts from the workshop onto our school website for anyone who was unable to join us.

Ruby class shared a whole day of outdoor learning together yesterday focusing on scaling, measuring and the Rainforest – they created some wonderful natural artwork and thoroughly enjoyed the session despite the rain.
The rain didn't dampen spirits at FASA's Summer Fair yesterday – and neither did our unexpected water feature in the hall! This was another great event and it was lovely to see so many relatives and children joining in the fun. Many thanks to everyone who helped to set up, clear up and run the stalls, the FASA team for organising all of the activities and to all of the families who supported this important fund raising event.

ABC Childcare
Bookings are now being taken for 0 – 2 year olds – thank you for the great response so far. Please look out for ABC's school holiday activities, there will be a leaflet coming home soon.

New Starters to School for September
We held our new starters evening for the parents of all of our new Reception children on Monday.
Starting school is an exciting and emotional time for parents and children and we recognise it is valuable to be as prepared as possible for this big event. The Families in the Foundation Years website at: http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/parents/starting_primary_school
has several useful sections such as 'Starting School' and 'Getting to know your new school'. They outline helpful tips about first day nerves and supporting your child in the first few weeks. I hope parents find this information useful.

Skoolsfest 2015
Don't forget this special event, which takes place in Nantwich tomorrow. There will be a range of activities throughout the day beginning with our joint schools choir 'Big Sing' at 10am. I hope to see many of you there.

Nantwich Education Partnership – Internet Safety Training for Parents

As you are aware, our school works closely with our partner schools in Nantwich allowing us to offer opportunities for our parents to access a range of support and advice through our Education Outreach Worker and Cluster SENCO. Our Partnership have organised an Internet safety workshop for parents next week. As a cluster we feel it is important, in the increasingly technological world that children are now exposed to, to share and provide access to information that will help parents protect their children online. More details of this session are available on the information letter which I am sending out with this newsletter.

Sun Safety
Despite the rain yesterday, we are all enjoying the lovely sunshine recently and forecasts suggest this will continue. On this basis, we need to be mindful of being Sun and Heat Safe. Please can you ensure your child has a sunhat or cap with them on hot days, a water bottle and where possible they wear 'all day' suncream (such as P20) to protect them throughout the day. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Build Work
Our Key Stage 2 corridor build work, linking Amber and Ruby classes to the hall and central area of school without needing to walk through Diamond class, is almost complete and we are delighted with the end results. From Monday 6th July, Year 6 children will be able to use their new classroom door (by the office entrance area) at the beginning and end of the school day. Thank you for your patience during these works.

Attention All Year 6s!
The Youth Club for children in Years 7-11, are having a 'Launch Night' next Wednesday (8th) from 7pm – 9pm at the Baptist Church. There will be a free BBQ and drinks and lots of arts and activities to enjoy.
There is also a free goodie bag for the first 30 children to arrive! All Year 6's are welcome to attend this special event.

Finally
As you will be aware, we have had some issues during the last few weeks with our main phone line and Internet connection making it more difficult for parents and carers to get through to school by phone or email. We have been reassured that this issue has now been addressed, however I would like to make you aware that, unfortunately, when our server is down, we are unable to send our Parentmail texts alerting parents to this. However we do have a separate fax line number (01270 812314) which we would ask parents and carers to use if they have difficulties getting through to the school office in the future.
Thank you for your understanding with this matter.
