Below are two key parts of St James Primary School weekly newsletter which show that even in primary school our children are learning about Shakespeare and a further update on the national Funding Formula for Schools from Rebecca Jewitt and the likely impact on our local schoolchildren.
Audlem Online understands there is to be a Nantwich Education Partnership parents protest in Nantwich on the 27th February
Monday saw our Year 5 and 6 children heading off to Stratford-Upon-Avon for their residential. By the time I visited them on Tuesday evening, they were full of stories of drama workshops, Shakespeare and of course their excitement about the planned disco that evening! There was dancing and games galore and it was wonderful to see everyone looking after each other so well.
I sent a joint letter from all of the Nantwich Education Partnership to all families about this consultation earlier this week. I attended an update meeting about the impact these cuts will have on our school and schools across Cheshire East last week and the forecast is very bleak. If the proposed funding cuts go ahead, our school will inevitably need to make significant adjustments to teaching and learning in school as the proposed formula will not provide the basic minimum funding per pupil required to provide the minimum standard of education.
Despite the Department for Education's stated aim to address historic imbalance across the country in education funding, their current formula proposals will mean there remains a significant variance between the highest and lowest funded authorities nationally. Cheshire East is facing the biggest cut to funding compared to all similar authorities and will remain one of the worst funded authorities nationally.
The Consultation on this is open until 22nd March 2017 and is available here
I would urge as many parents and carers as possible to respond – remember you do NOT need to complete all of the consultation questions (many are written in an unhelpful and inaccessible way). Please focus on the first four
questions and say NO to our school and children not being given the same opportunities as children in other similar schools across the country just because they are in Cheshire East.
Thank you.
Rebecca Jewitt
