Apart from the huge crowds actually at the Transport Festival and Historic Narrow Boats Gathering, the pulling power of this free Festival was demonstrated in another way – a record readership for one day on AudlemOnline yesterday, most of them drawn, we are sure, by news and photos of the day.

Yesterday's 2,169 unique readers pipped the previous best of 2,143 on 1st April this year. This was to the relief of most members of the webteam who are pleased that a normal day of real news now holds the accolade rather than the day of nonsense the editor insists on every April Fools Day.

Now that the readership statistics are available to all – simply click on the Visits Today at the bottom left of the Homepage – statistics geeks will be wondering if the monthly record could also be established by Wednesday night. Based on daily averages, it will be a close run race over the next three days. The current best is July this year with 49,511 visitors. At the time of writing this story, the figure for July stands at 45,647.
