Lynette Hopkins sent in the following message in response to a newspaper article regarding the £1 billion earmarked by the government to target traffic congestion across the UK and improve our transport structure – including road bridges and street lighting.

"I HAVE READ IN THE PAPER THIS MORNING:

£1bn roads revolution launched, scores of new bypasses are to be built to combat congestion in towns and cities.

I BET AUDLEM ISNT ONE OF THEM."

The £1 billion will be sourced from the nearly £6 billion raised annually from VED – the car tax.

The government has said that the aim is "to tackle bottlenecks and traffic jams, providing better connections between towns and cities."

Whilst the prospect of an Audlem bypass might seem desirable as a means to tackle congestion within Audlem, it would remain to be seen whether the £1bn budget, just two thirds of the amount received by the DUP following the recent general election, would provide scope for this or indeed whether a bypass would cause more disruption to the village than the various existing and proposed residential developments.
