Audlem visited Moddershall who are run away leaders of the division on Sunday at their delightful Wrekin View ground where not only was the prominent mid Shropshire landmark on display but also the more distant Clee Hills and the Stiperstones within clear vision.
On the day the view was as good as it got for the Audlem lads who were soundly beaten by a superb all round team performance from their hosts who were better in every discipline of the game and were worthy winners by the margin of 8 wickets
.
Moddershall won the toss and decided to field first which appears to be the key to their success as a glance at the league table tells you that they have won 7 of their 10 games so far this season chasing down totals set by the opposition. It soon became apparent that was going to be an uphill struggle for the Audlem lads as opening bowlers Nishantha Jayakdi and Shameera Weerasinghe were miserly in the extreme.

Skipper and opening bat Chris Shenton and no.4 Danny Thorburn struggled manfully to make some headway in scoring a watchful 16 and 13 respectively to try and see off the opening attack. Only a belligerent Charlie Hine batting at 6 was able to prosper against the equally impressive change bowlers in hitting a fine 43 off only 52 deliveries. At the close of the innings Audlem had amassed just 115 runs for the loss of 9 wickets which looked decidedly under par knowing the strength of the batting line up of the opposition.

Moddershall were soon into their stride chasing down the modest total and achieved their goal in only the 24th over with just 2 wickets down. Simon Swift was the pick of the bowling attack bowling a fine spell of 7 overs and only conceding 13 runs against some top quality batsmen. Audlem will be looking forward to some home comforts this Sunday when they play hosts to Stone at the Gorse Croft (2:30 pm start )
