This Wednesday the 19th July is the last Youth Club Session before the Summer Holidays and it's the wet one we did last year.
Bangers and Splash returns again, complete with waterslide and big bins full of water so you can soak whoever you want to the max. Everything kicks off at 7.15pm as usual and there will be hot dogs from the Village Hall ovens (gorgeous sausages from Oxtail and Trotter), with heavenly chips from the village chippy around 8pm ish.
An extra treat this year is your choice of chocolate, strawberry or vanilla ice cream cones from the lovely Llovely ice cream people who are opening especially late just for us. All of this is for just £1 subs as normal.
If you want a truly epic water fight you might want to bring your own pistol/squeegee bottle/water cannon (joke) because we only have a limited number to go round and we had over 50 young people here last year. The easiest thing to do is bring an empty washing up liquid bottle from home. It gets really cold when the sun starts to go down and you're dripping wet. Bring a towel at the very least but you might want to bring a dry set of clothes to change into.
Water balloons are evil inventions that split into a million pieces when thrown at speed and contrive to scatter themselves over an area approximately the size of the Isle of Man. Not wishing that inconvenient truth to spoil the fun, please can you help us pick up afterwards – it took ages last year.
Youth Club warmly welcomes to Bangers & Splash any young person in the community who is aged 11years and older, there is an open invitation to all.
We particularly look forward to welcoming new faces from the outgoing Year 6 at Audlem St James Primary School and, indeed, any young person in the village who is moving up to Secondary school in the Autumn.
One last thought to deposit before the Summer. We are now seriously looking at starting up a second evening for young people in the village. The idea would be to run this as a Cafe type session for those around Year 10 and above (14yrs and upwards tbc). It will be an informal drop-in with a limited cafe type menu on offer at low prices. It will be staffed by adult volunteers whose delivery will be in a low key, supervisory capacity.
The session is intended as an alternative chill-out venue for young people who may choose a different kind of evening to that on offer at our Wednesday sessions. We think there is an appetite for such an evening but we don't know for sure until we try, and we would like to try when the new annexe opens in late October this year.
At the moment there are seven of us on the team of volunteers, all of whom are committed to doing their bit for young people in Audlem. I don't think that, realistically, we can pull off a second evening unless we manage to find one or two extra volunteers to join the team. In an ideal world we try to schedule cover so that no one is obliged to support a session every week.
We represent a range of commitment levels from 1 session per month through to 3 and sometimes 4 (rarely necessary though) and more commonly 2 per month. We would really like to hear from young people in the village, or their parents, if the evening described here is something that they would like to see start up in Audlem. Also, if there is anyone out there who might consider giving up a couple of evenings a month to help us out, we would love to hear from you too.
We have all sorts of plans and ideas to make the new youth club space a very cool place to be for all of us. If you would like to chat about any of this stuff you can call me, Kate on 07789 915940 or if you just want to leave feedback/comments you can mail us at audlemyc@gmail.com
Have an absolutely brilliant Summer and see you in September!
