As advertised in last months Canal & River Trust Volunteer Report on 'Audlem on Line' the volunteer lock keepers based in Audlem met on Friday 13th July.

For the superstitious amongst us you may add 'Not a good date on the calendar' but as normal the task force day went without a hitch.

The normal safety brief was delivered by our full time team leader, pointing out the various hazards in today's programme of work which included
cutting back the high hedge that surrounds our wheely bin waste area, this included clearing weeds from the gravel car park area adjacent to the C & R T lock keepers cottage, then down to the off side of the canal between locks 14 to 15 to clear light vegetation from the C & R T off side moorings and footpath area in preparation for the historical boats that attend the Transport Festival weekend later in the month. Finally the team moved on to work on the bywash areas in and around lock 13, in all an extremely pleasing task force day.

Friday is now the new 'preferred day' for the Audlem Volunteer Lock Keepers / Lock Rangers to meet for their programmed task force days and it appears to be a popular choice, in total we had 10 persons attend the day, mostly volunteers supported by some C & R T full time employees, a great turn out with brilliant results.

The normal phrase of 'As normal' the team were looked after with hot and cold drinks plus 'Yes' bacon and egg butties were supplied by our resident chief, extremely welcome and very tasty.

Next month the team will meet up for their task force day on Friday 10th August and welcome all to join us for an extremely rewarding day, you can always enquire with one of the duty lock keepers for further details, we cover lock keeping duties most days.
