This story has been sent over from Utah in the United States where it appeared on a radio station's website. Our thanks to Becky Bonell, whose sister, Abigail, has worked for many years in the States (mainly as a radio presenter):

"One of my favourite jobs at the radio station is filling in as a host on the Travel Show. Who doesn't love the chance to travel or simply talk about it? Mark Faldmo Sr. and Larry Gelwix host the show and operate Columbus Travel.

They asked me to list my top five places to visit in the United Kingdom. I have a much longer list but I will try and stick to the request.

My top pick is Audlem in south Cheshire. This is where I grew up and my family still live today. Our home has been in the family since 1840. The village is ancient and simply delightful.

Audlem is dairy country, offering a maze of magnificent walks. We're famous for our crumbly delicious Cheshire cheese.

St. James' Church dominates the village, perched on a walled mound. It dates back to 1278. The Butter Market from 1733 is located below. My dad built the three wooden seats inside.

The village is filled with lovely little shops. My favourite is Williams right in the middle of Audlem. I grew up with Judy who runs the shop today. The business is more than 150 years old and sells everything from tea towels to toffee. It is a must see. A true gem.

The Shropshire Union Canal runs through the village with 15 locks to navigate. The waterway once hauled goods from steel to coal. Today, thousands of visitors pass through on narrow boats at a snail's pace enjoying the idyllic countryside.

The Combermere Arms is just four miles from Audlem nestled in Burlydam. It is my favourite place to enjoy a good lunch or dinner. It's a historic pub built in the 16th century. Just charming. You won't be disappointed.

Now you are on the road to North Wales. My second top spot!

A great rambling drive through the countryside will take you to Llangollen, Betws-Y-Coed, Snowdonia National Park and Snowdon. Britain's second highest peak. It's an area of stunning beauty. Last stop, Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey where you can catch the ferry to Dublin, Ireland.

Third spot. The Lake District in North West England. Gorgeous.

Fourth spot. The Cotswolds in South Central England. Beautiful.

Fifth spot. Edinburgh, Scotland. A city you will never forget.

Sixth spot. I couldn't leave it off the list. London. See the sights and then head out to explore the British Isles.

My thanks to the Travel Show and my sister Rebecca Bonell for taking the brilliant photograph's of our village. What a lovely trip down memory lane. Send my love to Audlem! Safe travels."

AudlemOnline adds: Not bad, coming in as Number One ahead of North Wales, the Lake District, the Cotswolds, Edinburgh and London.
