FROM THE WORLD OF BANKING TO RELUCTANT SHEPHERDESS

Changing career at any time opens doors to the relative unknown, but the prospect of finding your own Utopia is tempting. Audlem Probus Club’s guest speaker this Thursday (June 25th) did just that, switching from life in the world of banking to the very different world of farming and, hopefully, created her own “Ewetopia”?

Many of our members, retired and semi-retired professional and business men and women, have spent most of their lives in farming of one kind or another. It’s doubtful many will have experienced the lifestyle changes undertaken by Rosie Lee, a Cheshire-based farmer known far and wide as “The Reluctant Shepherdess”, the title of her presentation.

Rosie describes her talk as “… a very light-hearted one about the journey I have taken from 2012 to the here and now. It includes the challenges and joys I share, the highs and lows, that farming presents.”

Rosie worked for Barclays Bank as a Customer Services Manager until her change of career direction into farming.  She adds: “My talk brings us through to the here and now and the turns of fate that have gifted me the life I share with others now.”

Every element of Rosie’s journey to becoming a shepherdess she describes as having been very driven by fate: the death of her father; what she describes as “the timely leaving of the bank to have children”; and other changes in circumstances.

As a shepherdess, Rosie chose to work with Shropshire Sheep, said to be the UK’s oldest registered pedigree breed, and one which is ideal for the modern, sustainable farming. That choice, Rosie describes as having been “driven by conservation activity” on the farm she runs today.

So, is Rosie still a “reluctant shepherdess”, or has she truly found her very own “Ewetopia”?

Find out by joining us at Audlem Public Hall this Thursday, June 25th,

from 10am. Guests and visitors welcome.
