Tuesday's Day Club saw a fabulous pantomime being performed in Hankelow by eight of our very own ADCA volunteers. Who could have known we had such thespians as drivers and club helpers?
The church hall was packed by members, family guests and invited visitors they could not resist the temptation of seeing men in dresses and lurid wigs.
Little did they know it would be our chairman, Roger Millns and his ugly sister, Haydn Christie, who both bickered perfectly with that wicked stepmother, Campbell Ward, joining in to give poor Cinderella, aka Rose Consterdine, a hard time.
Many did not recognise the faces beneath the copious amount of make up expertly applied.
All was not lost for the "Fairy Godmother", David Higham, sprang (or as much as he could in that tutu) into action and sent her to the ball, and just as in that other story, Prince Charming was
smitten and yes he, Helen Dunlop that is, found his true love and went off into the ever after singing Morecambe and Wise's "Bring Me Sunshine" with the whole cast.
This was a very apt ending as there was nothing but cheers and laughter from start to finish from all of the audience who were even shouting for more but were left wanting on that score.
The show was ably narrated by Nola Fisher and was expertly accompanied on the piano by Alix Bryson.
Some said the cast made it up as they went along but " oh no it wasn't as the whole show had
been painstakenly produced and directed by ADCA's assistant coordinator, Lynn Morear, with the help of Jesse and Dorothy from the day club.
So, will there be a panto next year? Oh yes there will! Oh no there won't.
