"Thank You" for sponsoring me

What a great day out! At 8.15am on Tuesday morning, Peter, Ned and I left St James' church and walked up the canal to Chester Cathedral. We had, over the years of living in Cheshire, walked various parts but it was great to put it all together, and it was a wonderful walk.

We stopped at Nantwich marina café for tea and toast, we ate a picnic lunch at Bunbury locks, more caffeine at The Shady Oak near Beeston and enjoyed a cup of tea near the Cathedral just after 4.30pm with the welcome party who had driven up from Audlem to cheer us in, some of whom had seen us off at St James' in the morning.

Weather

The sun shone for most of the walk, but the gentle breeze meant we didn't get too warm. There was snow still visible on various sections of the walk. I'd like to do it again it was so good. The terrain was mixed, some muddy and the last stretch from Waverton was paved all the way: not good for the knees on the last stretch but it meant we kept up a good pace when we might have faltered.

For those worried about the wellbeing of my gorgeous Labrador: he did have a lift from The Shady Oak to Chester: we felt at 10 years old that was probably far enough. For those concerned about the wellbeing of my lovely husband: he should be fine tomorrow.

Highlights

Highlights: meeting a Praise and Play family enjoying a dayboat from Nantwich; sense of achievement; the support team; knowing lots of people had sponsored us; great walk in sunshine.

Disappointment: Audlem Marina café was too soon after we'd set off to stop for tea and cake. Not sure we'll walk too far tomorrow though.

Thanks to my support team, but especially to those who have sponsored me – £800+ and still counting – much appreciated towards 'Raising the roof'. Will update you as we collect the rest of the money in. A recommendation to ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society ) "walk it!" but it is a long walk – we were told 26 miles.
