I write in total exasperation that our own Parish Council appears to be doing nothing in the way of ensuring that the only big asset hereabouts – the playing field – could become too expensive for the committees and societies, clubs etc where I have an involvement arranging events.
At present the Audlem Football Club, newly reformed this season, have had to cough up close to £400 for the privilege of using this 'jewel' of the village. Pitch markings and goalposts are now used by all free as we, AFC, have funded this.
As we sought permission from Cheshire East to hold the Carnival – still there after over 200 years – we are told we must put up a £500 cash deposit now in case the field gets damaged.
In addition, I am now informed that it is more that 90% certain we will have to pay for permission to hold this event on our own playing field. Which of course will more than likely mean the death knell of this historic village event.
I hear too that ASET will face the same cold flannel in their face. And I wonder just what is next. Permit paid in advance to walk your dogs there? Rent charges to the Audlem Saints FC? Charge to the Cubs, Brownies, etc to hold their open air meets? Table top sales by ADAS being charged? All other open air ADAS events too?
I am now informed that the rent for next year for using the field will be £360 per day of any event! £360 per day! End of game if that is the case.
What next. Car park charges? Just imagine all the visitors etc who come to enjoy the best village in South Cheshire for the vibrancy and the community spirit we have here. Funerals need to be able to park there as our cemetery is by far the best around as all will give testament. How can you charge such saddened folks to park.
What a sorry state to come to this. No more vacillating, please. Let the Parish Council move themselves fast and take up what I understand was an offer for Audlem to be in control of what is for Audlem – and a playing field that is an important village asset – not a burden to all of us who try to do what we can for this wonderful vibrant community. Please, no more sitting on hands.
As was coined back in 1976, stick to "By the Village, for the Village". Let us see positive action for the village over this very serious matter. After all, Hankelow PC is taking action in securing their Village Green for perpetuity.
