Shroppie Fly Crane comes Home

After several months away from its normal position 'The raised area outside of the Shroppie Fly Pub' the canal crane has arrived back beside the canal in Audlem.

A team of Canal and River Trust 'apprentices' have removed, refurbished and replaced all of the cranes wooden and metal parts, a fresh coat of paint has also been applied.

Then, on the back of a 'specialist crane lorry' it arrived back on the Audlem wharf just after 9 am this morning. A full team of Canal and River Trust engineers plus some of the Audlem Volunteer Lock Rangers were also on site to assist in the safe instillation of the crane.

At this moment 'late Wednesday afternoon' you will notice that there is a safety barrier still in place and some straps and support props around the centre post to hold the structure as concrete sets.

Tomorrow morning the stone 'sets' will be replaced back around the base of the centre post and over the next few days weeds will be removed from the area and paint work will also be 'touched up as necessary'
