A visitor attraction near Audlem has lifted a top accolade from a prestigious world travel website.

Subscribers to Tripadvisor rate the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Hack Green among the top 10% of all attractions in the world.

Now the website has handed the Secret Bunker a Certificate of Excellence 2013 after 92 of 116 reviewers rated the attraction 'Very good' or 'Excellent'.

The underground Secret Bunker complex gives visitors an insight into the history of the Cold War with Europe's largest public display of decommissioned nuclear weaponry and a substantial collection of military and Cold War memorabilia.
.
Alison Copus, for TripAdvisor for Business, said: "The Certificate of Excellence award provides top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most – their customers."

The vast underground complex, remained secret for more than 50 years as a centre for regional government in the event of a nuclear war.

It had a compliment of 18 officers, 26 NCO's and 224 corporals and aircraftsmen and in 1958 became part of the UK's air traffic control system for joint civil and military aircraft.

Following the end of the Cold War in 1992, the site was bought by a private company and opened to the public in 1998 as a museum with a Cold War theme.

Most Tripadvisor reviewers rate the Bunker highly with comments such as "a surprisingly educational experience", "a vastly informative place" and "absolutely fascinating"

But a few are put off by the £7.50 entrance price "a bit steep" while others complain of poor customer service. For more information on the Secret Bunker visit http://www.hackgreen.co.uk
