We have been notified of an update in the last paragraph of this article.

Old people at the Thornton House complex in Audlem may have been overcharged for more than a year. Residents are angry that they are forced to pay service charges for the communal room.

They used the Public Forum of Audlem Parish Council to protest at paying service charges for its upkeep when residents from the Thornton House bungalow complex almost never use the room.

Roger Millns, chairman of Audlem & District Community Action(ADCA), said he thought site owners Wulvern Housing had axed service charges for the meeting room last year.

"I'm certain I was told you are not paying service charges for this social room any more. If you are you shouldn't be," he told residents.

But they insisted that service charges for the room were still appearing on their bills.

The large communal room at the complex was once well-used by residents for social events such as dances and bingo.

But usage has tailed off over the years and residents now only use it for the occassional whist drive.

But the room has proved useful for other local organisations such as ADCA for the Tuesday lunches and Friday coffee mornings while Audlem Parish Council currently use it for its monthly meetings.

(Update) The Parish Council is to take up the matter of the service charges still appearing on residents' bills with Wulvern Housing at the earliest opportunity.
