Touch Screen computers with interactive presentations have been installed at the Mill Shop on Audlem Wharf and at the Overwater Marina.

There's a mass of information and films highlighting local attractions. Two films feature Audlem Locks and How a Lock Works with local actor and narrow boat owner Pete Marshall in front of camera. Others cover Audlem village, the Overwater Marina, the Mill Shop and Audlem Lass.

The films were shot and edited by John Owen who has recently won two awards for films he has produced.

Thomas TelfordThe screens feature illustrated information on the life and works of Thomas Telford, the famous civil engineer who built the canal through Audlem, his last major project before his death. He was responsible for an amazing number of projects in England, Scotland, Wales and Sweden.

His work included the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, pictured here and still one of the great attractions of the canal network, the Menai and Conwy bridges, as well as churches, roads, hundreds of bridges, docks and canals.

InformationOther sections on the computer program cover Audlem's attractions and notable buildings; major events in the Audlem calendar; local wildlife; walks in the area; Audlem history and much more. Additional features and information will be added regularly – indeed, the screens are updated remotely via the internet.

A leaflet dispenser sits under the screen displaying the new 12-page Audlem 2011 leaflet promoting local events this year and the local Walks leaflet.

The computer program is by local company ThenMedia who are also responsible for the design of Audlem Online. The project has been managed by the Audlem Parish Plan team.

FundingFunding for the computers has been provided by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and Defra through the Northern Marches Leader scheme and the Vitality fund of Visit Chester and Cheshire. Matched funding was from Cheshire East, British Waterways and the Overwater Marina.
