The Canal & River Trust (CRT), the successor body to British Waterways, has produced a splendid new leaflet featuring Audlem, "One of our Hidden Gems."

The leaflet invites readers to "Discover the pretty village of Audlem on the Shropshire Union Canal. The gentle landscape, plenty of wildlife and the flight of locks ensure a great day out."

There is an informative map featuring the village's three pubs – see to the right and you click on the map to enlarge it – and the canal to to the north up to the Overwater Marina.

There is the inevitable Health & Safety warning suggesting you may stay safe if you stay away from the edge, a very useful hint.

Page 2 suggests checking out St James' church, taking Audlem Lass to the marina, watching the boats go by, visiting Audlem Mill Craft Centre and Canal Shop and looking out for a range of birds.

There is a potted history of the canal and its construction by Thomas Telford.

Our thanks to Alex Davis at Overwater Marina for sending us a copy of this very welcome leaflet.
