Audlem local resident John Baker's horse Major Malarkey competed in the Grand National this afternoon.
While the betting made the Major a rank outsider at a typical price of 100 – 1, John must have been very satisfied as his horse negotiated the course well and finished a creditable 11th out of a starting field of forty. Indeed, Major Malarkey seemed to be coming up the field strongly in the closing stages
Major Malarkey had raced at Aintree once before in October 2008. His most recent wins were in December and November 2010. Our photo shows the 10-year old gelding competing at the Cheltenham Festival.
