The Chronicle reports today that crisis-hit Leighton Hospital has announced plans to axe up to 70 beds as part of a recovery (yes, that is the word used!) plan to reduce £9 million of debt. The hospital, which is embroiled in a row over recently doubled car parking charges for the public and the introduction of parking charges for staff, and was heavily criticised by the Healthcare Commission for its care of the elderly, plans to claw back £8.8 million. The Mid Cheshire Hospitals Trust says the 70 beds are not needed since the day treatment centre opened.
