Cash-strapped Cheshire East Council is set to hike up its car parking charges in Nantwich and other towns from April.
It means parking for a maximum of one hour on some car parks will be as much as £1.40, up from £1.30 currently.
It was an officer delegated decision by Cheshire East Council, which has now been approved by Acting Executive Director of Place.
The decision could still be “called in” by a councillor or councillors, which would mean the proposals going before a committee for approval.
In Nantwich, from April 1st users on Bowling Green car park will pay 70p for half an hour instead of 60p, £1.40 for one hour instead of £1.30, £2.20 for two hours instead of £2, £2.80 instead of £2.60 for up to three hours, and £3.90 instead of £3.60 for up to four hours.
The same increases will apply to Church Lane, Market Area (Closed on Market Days) up to a maximum of two hours.
On the Civic Hall and Dysart Buildings car parks, a 30-minute maximum stay rises from 50p to 60p, a hour stay goes from £1 to £1.10, and 2-hour stay from £1.70 to £1.90.
Three hours rises from £2.30 to £2.50, and up to four hours from £3 to £3.30.
For First Wood Street, Love Lane and Snow Hill car parks, the same rises are for one hour, two hours, three hours and four hours.
For longer stays, charges for six hours go from £4 to £4.30, up to 10 hours from £4.60 to £5, and up to 14 hours from £4.90 to £5.30.
Annual parking permits are also rising, from £670 to £770.
Cheshire East Council said: “Alongside the increases in parking tariffs, there will be an annual uplift to the costs of related permits, dispensations and services.
“The principal purpose of these changes is to ensure that other parking fees remain in-step and broadly proportionate to our standard pay & display tariffs.”
Business User Permits will increase from £140 to £150 per permit.
Fees for Residents Parking Permits from £90 to £100 for the first permit, for the second permit from £110 to £120 and, in areas where a third permit may be issued, fee will change from £120 to £135.
Only last year, the council was criticised for extending the hours in which charges apply from 6pm to 10pm on weekdays, as well as introducing Sunday charging.
