Key farmworker needs new house

A 'modern but contemporary' design will reflect the character of the surrounding land, says a report supporting an application to build a farmworker's house at Burleydam.

The Hollins family has outgrown the farm at Dodcott Grange, says a design statement by Wright Manley, and a new house is needed for a 'key' agricultural worker.

They want full planning permission for a two bedroom dormer bungalow near the current farmhouse.

Although in open countryside, the new home will "not propose any greater ecological impact to that what was considered when the farm enterprise evolved historically," says the statement

Dodcott Grange Farm is located on the edge of Burleydam, off the A530, near Combermere Abbey, where the family owns 180 acres rearing beef and sheep and rents out another 370 acres.

The farm has been in the family since 1986 and is currently a joint father and son enterprise. But the junior partner need his own house, says the report.

"Based on this situation, the expanding farming enterprise and ever growing demands of the holding it is the applicant's
intention to provide necessary on site accommodation for a key agricultural worker," the report adds.

The house would be built of reclaimed brick and blue slate to blend in with the rural farm location.

The application will be dealt with by a Cheshire East planning officer with delegated authority and has a decision target date of December 13th.
