Popular local musician and BBC Introducing 'Pick for 2013' Heidi Browne was given the thumbs up by judges at the Open Mic UK 2013 Regional Finals held at The Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester on Sunday October 6th.

Heidi now goes through to the next round (the area final) which will include winners from the whole of Scotland and the North. The event will be held on:

December 1st
@ Dewsbury Town Hall
West Yorkshire
7.45pm
Tickets are available for the show at £10, through Heidi or on the door.

The judges included a Guardian journalist and member of Manchester band: The Stone Roses. They were impressed not only with her vocal ability, but also image, performance, originality and star quality. The contestants will be battling it out for a place in the Grand Final at the O2!

Heidi described the moment on her blog: "....and onto the next round! By the skin of my teeth, thanks to the judges and to the audience votes, I was one of the 6 successful singers put through to the AREA FINAL of OPEN MIC UK."

Open Mic UK 2013 is the biggest music competition in the UK for singers and solo artists, searching for the UK's best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material. Heidi said "unlike X Factor and The Voice, this competition seemed more suited to me, as a singer-songwriter playing original music."

Heidi Browne plays violin, flute, piano and guitar with a voice described by BBC Radio 2's Tom Robinson as 'immaculate'.

Following the release of her first album 'Table 4 One' in 2011, BBC Radio 2's Tom Robinson picked Heidi Browne's song 'G.I.R.L.F.R.I.E.N.D' for his BBC 6 Mixtape. This quirky pop number was song of the month on BBC Radio Shropshire and it went on to be played on stations around the UK.
