The Audlem Lass team had good news yesterday afternoon when Cheshire East awarded them over £800 to improve their facilities for the coming season which will help boost their fund raising activities for the RNLI, the lifeboat charity.
The money, Rod Cottrell tells AudlemOnline, will be used to provide cushions on board, to obtain a new boat cover and improve signage which has been in use for some years and is now showing its age.
Audlem Lass is being prepared for its fifth season. Set up in 2011, the 12-seater boat carries passengers between the Audlem locks and the Overwater Marina. It has carried 17,000 passengers so far and all the money paid by passengers, after costs, goes to the RNLI, the lifeboat charity.
This year, a Wheelyboat is planned too that can carry passengers in wheelchairs, for example, for trips on the canal. This will be based at the Overwater Marina which was recently awarded the accolade of 'Inland Marina of the Year' at the London Boat Show.
