Firefighters are to stage a second walkout this weekend in protest at changes in their pensions

Crews will walk out again between 6.30pm and 11.30pm on Saturday, October 19.

They previously staged a walkout for four hours at the end of September as the row continues over plans to force firefighter to work unto they are 60.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says it is confident it can handle Saturday's strike but they encourage everyone to take extra care to ensure services are not stretched.

Service bosses stress the strike action is over national issues not local ones and that action will only be taken by members of the Fire Brigade's Union.

"We do have plans and procedures in place that will enable us to continue to protect the communities of Cheshire during the five hour strike period," said a spokesman.

"However, we would encourage everyone to take extra care during the strike. Be especially careful when cooking, as this is the biggest cause of accidental fires."

The union says government plans to force firefighters to work to the age of 60 will put lives at risk.
