A planned strike by Cheshire firefighters planned for later today has been called off.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) were set to carry out industrial action for five hours between 6.30pm and 11.30pm in protest at Government plans to increase firefighters' pension age to 60.

But the actions was called off yesterday afternoon following national talks with which suggested the government has made some concessions in the dispute.

The union feared firefighters could lose their jobs if they fail fitness tests, forcing them to retire on reduced pensions.
