Audlem is to press ahead with 'dog signs' on the village playing fields.

The signs will warn pet owners to keep their dogs on leads when crossing the field behind the public car park.

The move follows anger at dog mess repeatedly found on field, a danger to children and a nuisance for weekend footballers.

Councillor Heather Jones told a Parish Council meeting: "We have no authority to ban dogs but we can put up signs telling owners to keep their dogs on leads."

Councillors are also to push ahead with plans to get Dog Control Orders imposed in designated areas of the village. Dog Control Orders would replace existing bye-laws formerly policed by the now defunct Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council.

Control Orders would give the council powers to impose fines of up to £1,000 for breaches and orders could be made on any open village land to which the public has access.
