A reminder that tomorrow, Monday 8th April, is the deadline for registering an interest in this country-wide scheme to try and get cheaper electricity. It's a very easy process and does not commit you to having to switch.

This was Geoff Seddon's original article from last month (with minor edits to bring it up to date):

Community Energy Switching Scheme

At March's Parish Council meeting members were told that Cheshire East has teamed up with more than 50 other councils throughout Great Britain to organise a collective energy switching scheme via a "reverse auction" with energy suppliers. Members had already discussed the feasibility of setting up such a scheme for Audlem and surrounding parishes. Clearly, residents will achieve greater savings by joining the nationwide scheme.

When South Lakeland Council undertook a similar scheme last year, residents made savings of between £200 and £750 on their annual joint gas and electricity bills.

Residents are urged to join the scheme. To get more details and register your interest click here.
This then explains the process of registering an interest in the scheme. This is not a commitment, sign up is free and there is no obligation to switch supplier.

You will need to have the name of your current supplier, tariff plan(s) and consumption in kWh or spend – all of which you can get from your bill(s) or annual statement.

Cheshire East is planning a number of sign-up events at local libraries. All householders will also receive a leaflet with their Council Tax bills. In addition Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Council Care and Repair Service will be making home visits armed with leaflets.

Be a good neighbour

In addition to registering your own interest you can register up to four other households on your email. So if you know of people who don't have access to the internet, you can register their interest as well. This could apply to some of the more elderly residents, who should be able to make a saving on their electricity bill.

Timetable

  • You have until Monday 8th April to register your interest
  • The auction takes place the following day.
  • You will receive an email from Wednesday 17th April with an offer based on your usage and best deal from the auction.
  • You need to decide whether you want to accept the offer and confirm before Wednesday 8th May.
