A collection is taking place over the next three weeks in Audlem and the surrounding area to collect food for the Nantwich Food bank. Rather than the standard shopping list this initiative is designed to bring a touch of Christmas to the emergency packages given out over the season.

After discovering that around half of the people helped by the Nantwich Food Bank throughout 2013 have been children, local residents Sarah Huntbach and Laura Jackson-Woods have set about to create this Christmas campaign and are rallying local businesses, volunteers and local residents to donate non-perishable items of food and seasonal goods so (hopefully) no one will miss out on a touch of Christmas.... or a Christmas Dinner!

Examples of seasonal items required include; tinned steam puddings, soups, tinned premium meats, crackers, chocolate coins, sweets, chocolate advent calendars, tinned chopped tomatoes, biscuits, Christmas puddings, packet sauces (eg bread sauce, stuffing, gravy), instant mash potato, tinned vegetables etc.. All items need to have as long an expiration date as possible, be new and unopened.

The food bank are also keen for thermal flasks to be able to put soup and hot drinks in for the homeless, tin openers, toiletries, baby food and slow cookers.

Hoc's Fat Pigeon and the Williams' of Audlem Newsagents have kindly agreed to be collection points or email laura@happyheritage.co.uk and we will organise for someone to come and collect the items from you that you are able to donate.

For those that would like to get further involved, Nantwich Foodbank desperately needs help for their collection at Tesco Crewe on 29th and 30th November. Pick any 1.5hr slot from 08.45am-6pm either day and contact: info@nantwich.foodbank.org.uk- volunteers needed to hand out shopping lists, collect donations, mark items with expiry dates etc..

Thank you in advance for each tin, chocolate &/or baby food you are able to donate & Merry Christmas (in advance!)

The Christmas collection will conclude mid-Nov in order to give us and the foodbank enough time to organise and prepare the emergency food packages for those they support in December.
