The national charity Greenspace wants a new skateboard park built in Audlem – 10 years after the idea was first suggested.

They recommend that a skatepark be included in any Section 106 agreement reached if Gladman wins its appeal to build 120 new homes at Little Heath.

The charity is a standard consultee in matters of this kind and Greenspace officials have told Cheshire East planners they would 'much prefer to see a small skatepark' on the open space within the Gladman development than an on-site traditional children's play area.

The skatepark idea goes back to 2002/2003 when Greenspace were in talks with Audlem Parish Council and a group called Audlem Action for Youth who were both campaigning for a skatepark facility within the village.

A report to Cheshire East's Strategic Planning Board, meeting next week, claims the problem was that the organizations and local residents could not agree where such a facility should be located.

Three separate planning applications were proposed but each of was subsequently withdrawn.

The report says the existing traditional children's play area in Audlem provides adequate facilities and that a new development at Little Heath would be "an ideal opportunity to address these issues".

More than 10 years later we would be pleased to know if anyone in Audlem owns a skateboard, would welcome a skatepark on the outskirts of the village or indeed has even seen a skateboard in Audlem.

Greenspace is also recommending that a floodlit games area be included in plans to build 36 homes on land off the Mill Lane bridleway.
