The acclaimed final resting place of those who have lived in and around the area is very well thought of by all.

It was opened in the year 1872, with the very first burial taking place in 1874. Over the years the erection of monuments in memory of our loved ones has varied, from the older years which included monoliths and needles to the now preferred smaller ones.

These monuments give us – and I include myself in those numbers – a point of reference in ensuring those who have died are not forgotten.

One of the most pleasing aspects of our award winning resting place – acknowledged to be the best in Cheshire - is the open aspect which gives rise to a wonderful, tranquil and pleasant place in which to visit and to quietly mourn.

Since taking on the task of running the cemetery over the past ten years or so, I have strived at all times to assist all who need such help, which includes the location of graves for callers from all over the UK and indeed abroad – all free of any charge.

The cemetery has been administered by the Burial Committee, made up, as it has been since 1872, of volunteer councillors from Audlem, Buerton, Hankelow, Dodcott and Newhall. This committee meets quarterly to receive my reports and to ensure all matters are in every way  correct and in keeping with the service offered to all who need it.

We do have a few guidelines such as the overall size of a memorial stone, but unlike many other such places, these guidelines are not severe.

We are hoping to move to a more lawned appearance over the next year or so – and further, after I identified the location of many paupers graves from our extensive records, the Committee is now in the process of determining  the erection of a suitable stone recording these long forgotten persons, ranging from a day old to their 90's – buried from 1880 to 1951.
