Aston and District W.I. met on Friday 5th July at 7.15pm.

Our President Jen read out a letter from Jean Harding thanking our members who contributed towards the success of the Cheshire Show. She also mentioned the available bursary for courses at Denman and encouraged members to apply.

The Scrabble and Domino classes are ongoing and all new members were welcome to come along and try a new activity.
This month the Luncheon Club will be meeting at the Bhurtpore on 9th July at 12.00noon for 12.30pm.
Sue Sullivan has organised a Town Walk around Shrewsbury on Wednesday 10th July. The Walking Group have been asked to meet at Nantwich Station in time to catch the 9.22 train to Shrewsbury.
The Bowls team has done well this season and Margaret Bourne wished to thank all the team members and helpers.

Unfortunately our previously advertised and booked speaker for the evening had been taken ill. However, Graham and Naomi Siminster had kindly stepped in to present their talk entitled "Making Memories" (Children's Adventure Farm Trust). They are both ambassadors for the Trust and two nicer people you could not have wished to meet. They give their time freely to help raise funds for C.A.F.T as does their daughter. They have always worked with children and by chance they met Tim Grundy who is the founder of the trust. The aim of the trust is to give children who are disabled, terminally ill, abused or disadvantaged a holiday of a lifetime where they can be themselves.

The farm is based in the Cheshire countryside at Booth Bank Farm where they have a sports hall, art room, multi-sensory suite, cinema, and ten acres of land. Children love all the specially adapted play areas and nature trails. There is even an Indian reservation. The bedrooms are made to look cosy and calm and every child has a soft toy to cuddle up to and which they take home with them at the end of their stay. Apart from the free holidays they provide respite care, activity days and a full-on Christmas party catering for over 500 children each year.

The talk was enhanced by a video which was played as the talk progressed. It was a sensitive issue which was spoken of in a very positive way. Many of our members helped the cause by donating money and receiving a small fluffy duck. All proceeds going into the fund to buy the 'sleep tight' toys for the children. The evening was a great success and certainly gave us all food for thought. The vote of thanks was given by Sue Sullivan.

We had the opportunity to sing happy birthday to Dulcie Lewis as she celebrated her 90th birthday and our President presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
The competition for this month was 'An Old Fashioned Remedy' and was won by Glenys Inight. After tea and cake the raffle winners were presented with their prizes.
Our next meeting will be held on August 2nd and it will be a social evening with demonstration and participation.
