Audlem Parish councillors may get advice on how to handle planning applications.

It follows an observation made to Cheshire East's Principal Planning Officer, Ben Heywood, that parish council comments on applications were too often ignored by the planning authority.

Mr Heywood told a recent meeting of Audlem Parish Council that officers took local comments on applications "very seriously indeed".

"But planning applications must also be judged against local and national planning policy frameworks," he told councillors.

And he offered to meet parish councillors to explain how planning applications are dealt with and how decisions are reached.

"We will and do go out parish councils to explain how the planning process works. We are very pleased to do that. Helping you to better understand issues of planning helps us too," he told councillors.

Parish council chairman Phillip Johnson said local councillors would welcome guidance on the planning process,

"I am sure we would all find that very helpful," he said and assured Mr Heywood that the council would be in touch to arrange a meeting.
