Hi there i am just wondering if the music festival is on this year please as i always look forward to this weekend
The fungus pictured is called Hoof Fungus (Fomes fomentarius) it grows on beech, oak, sycamore and Birch (as in the picture). The fruit bodies can be seen at at times of the year and live for many years. Sorry it is inedible!
Hi, we own Willow Wood Cottage which is advertised in the 'tourism places to stay' section of Audlem online. Feel free to get in touch if you think we can help. Rachel 07786516961.
Hello, we are a couple mid 60's and require furnished rental accommodation from around 20 March for 2/4 months.
2 Bedrooms, parking, wifi, washer etc.
I have contacted several of the people advertising in the business section, but unfortunately had no response.
If you can help please get in touch
Thank you :-)
Mat asks if AoL would be 'kind enough to post' his arrival in Audlem every Thursday. I want to say a big thank you to Mat for turning up and providing us with a much-appreciated service.
I owned a narrowboat, mooring at Overwater Marina for some years. Sadly, we no longer have the boat. I do however remember many walks along the towpath from Overwater into Audlem village and as a dog owner who ALWAYS clears up after our dogs, was sickened by the sheer volume of 'dog bombs' that weren't picked up and removed. Shared responsibility I think between dog owners and as Joe suggests, CRT who are very happy to take sizeable sums in license fees and really ought to provide bins for poo bags at regular intervals along every accessible stretch of towpath.
Re poo along the towpath, four bins are provided, which are emptied by the Parish Council's lengthsman. There's one at Audlem Wharf, two above the main road bridge, and one near lock 14. It's not Canal & River Trust's responsibility to make provision. The responsibility is on the dog owner to take the bag to a bin. The canal towpath through Audlem happens to be a public footpath (most canal towpaths in Britain are not, and are used by the public under licence), and public footpaths come under Cheshire East Council, so you could ask them to provide more bins – but who will empty them?
I totally agree with Christine, but why don't CRT put poo bins along the towpath? Walking with a bag of poo for some time must be unpleasant. Boat owners pay enough to CRT in licences to keep the canal and towpath in order, so should they not be approached to do something, they must know its happening
Walking along the canal towpath today we counted 87 dog poo bags between bridges 79 and 80. Well done irresponsible dog owners. Apart from despoiling the countryside, dog fouling is against the law!
Hi Nigel, we like you were disturbed by the very loud bang last night at an extremely inconsiderate hour and were wondering what it was. But whilst walking across the field at the back this morning, just below your paddock, I saw something sticking out of the grass at 45 degrees, which turned out to be, on closer inspection, the broken shaft of a substantial rocket that someone in the immediate vicinity had loosed off. It appeared to be in very good condition, no exposure to the elements, so I assume that this was the cause of the explosion which must have been upsetting to many of the local residents and their pets.
I too heard the load bang last night although I thought another large bird had flown into the patio doors. I walked around the house but saw nothing. Some sort of shock wave maybe but no idea where from. The back of our house is alongside the brook in School lane, some way from you but it was still very noticeable.
Hi Nigel
Yes I heard it loud and clear – I'm pretty sure it was a gun shot – sounded very close – over the direction of Parker's yard.
Suzie
Thanks to AoL, we have found out what the bang was.
It was indeed a rocket to commemorate anniversary the passing of the daughter of one of the neighbours. It turned out to be a bit louder than expected.
Thank you for letting us know and out thoughts are with you.
Nigel and Neighbours.
I few of us in the Mount Pleasant area were disturbed by a very loud bang or explosion at about 22:40 last night (22nd February).
Does anyone have any idea what it was and where it came from?
Fireworks?
Gas tank?
Bird scarer?
Sonic boom?
Rocket?
It was loud enough to wake a few of us up and set dogs off barking.
Nigel.
Hi Can anyone recommend someone to repair/replace a small garden fence please
John Reeves 0800 358 7455. Highly recommend.
We have used Aston tank services for years 01270 522291.
Highly recommended Andrew Parton to empty a septic tank. Fast, efficient, pleasant & reasonable service 07712 365063.
Hi, can anyone please advise who to contact for septic tank emptying?
Thankfully found sorry for the late update
I must say how much I enjoy reading Adrian Leighton's postings in AoL. Always has some interesting details which are informative as well as entertaining. Today's posting is a perfect example. Nice work, Adrian. You clearly know your stuff.
My best guess would be Smoky Bracket (Bjerkandera adusta) of the Coriolaceae family. There are a number of similar Bracket fungi
which are found of dead or rotting broad-leaved tree wood and seen all year round.
Thank you for your superb, personal account of your experience of the earthequake in New Zealand.
It was very moving and I quite understand why it took ten years to put pen to paper.
Try Billy Gibbons he's still looking for a street sign, perhaps he'll settle for this one instead of Green Lane
Thank you Pete and Jan for sharing your story on AOL. I'm not surprised that it still leaves you disturbed even after ten years. We were so lucky to get you all back safely.
