Marilyn, Thank you for your enquiry re charity shop opening times. At present we are only open on Saturdays (weather permitting) from 10-4 and we will happily accept donations between those hours. Due to lack of space, we cannot accept large items of furniture I'm afraid.
I Agee with all the comments. I live on Longhill Lane and have bought a checkered flag so that the tractors, lorries and cars can get an indication of what position they are in the race
Hi I found an AirPod near the canal bridge near the bridge pub, let me know on this chat if it's yours and I'll get it to you ( I can only imagine how irritating it must be to loose one AirPod!)
Hello, could somebody tell me what days the charity shop accepts donations please, or it's opening times?
Thank you.
Have fun in Turnpike Field, but be aware that the hedges/fences that border Green Lane and Whitchurch Road are not dog-proof. So if your daughter's dog is of the houdini variety, don't let it off in the top section of the field.
Lucky Buerton having such monitoring in a 40 mph zone! Just 0.5 mile away in Chapel End we have the national speed limit even through the busy blind spot of the Long Hill Lane/Kettle Lane crossing. 40 MPH limit would be great here and perhaps the cops would start to actually monitor this death trap zone.
Any recommendations please to measure and fit vertical blinds.
Hankelow area.
We need someone to cut down the grass on 2 small paddocks approx 1/4 and 3/4 acres . Can anyone recommend?
Thank you
Thank you Suzie for your welcome and directions to the turnpike and playing field. Our daughter is visiting from Scotland in a few days time and we've been wondering where we can walk safely with her small dog. These areas sound perfect. Many thanks. Carol
Hi Carol – welcome to the area.
For Turnpike Field head towards The Bridge Inn, further up from the Co-Op ... cross the road from there and you will see the first entrance to TPF a few yards up – small wooden gated entrance.
The Playing Field is at the back of the main car park.
I requested an update from Shropshire Council last week, this has just arrived:-
Good Afternoon Mr Young
Thank you for your email, I have spoken to Andy Moreton who is in charge of this set of works and he has informed that the works are delayed as there are matters that need to be resolved by our legal dept. The legal dept have instructed a solicitor to assist with taking the works through the various stages that are required in this process to ensure progress can be made and completion achieved.
Unfortunately we do not have a timeframe as yet but we will advise you when any progress is made.
Kind Regards

We look after two holiday lets in the village of Arnside, which sits on the Kent estuary at the south of the Lake District National Park. We have three sets of available dates in the next couple of weeks and as the area is ideal for walkers, we wondered whether any Audlem locals (many of whom we know love walking) would like to enjoy a visit to the area? It's a 2 hour journey north, or you can travel by train AND you don't really need to use transport once you get there, as there are walks from the door-step! And there's a lovely set of little shops, chippy, pub etc, all within walking distance (a bit like Audlem but by the water!)
The dates are: 6-9th July (3 nights) 11-14th July (3 nights) on the 2nd date, both apartments are available, so two groups could stay together! Sleeps 4-5 in each.
More details can be viewed on facebook @belmontarnside
Happy to offer a 'mates rate' over these dates, making it £125pn (reduced from £160 and will waive the cleaning fee too (£75)
If interested please contact us on FB or phone 07985 982786
Lots of chat here re Turnpike Field and its new notice board, but where exactly is this field? We're new to the area (Buerton) and would love to take a walk there.
Well said Catherine, I was just about the ask the village the same. We still have a few places available on the Council, it would be great to see the many enthusiastic chatbox contributors joining and doing something to make a difference.
Signage is a fact of modern life in these litigious times when the wildest creatures to be found on the Turnpike field will be the two-legged variety, so congratulations to the committee for the design and installation of the new signs and yes, they were not cheap but far more tasteful and in keeping with the ethos of the village, unless of course, plastic is your thing. Pound for pound, money better spent than on Track and Trace app. But that was only a few billion or so. Why bother to count. And I think that you will find, Bob, that there is already signage on the playing field, but unfortunately, nothing to ban dogs.
Just to say how much I enjoyed reading the brilliantly written commentary on the antics of the member of the walking group,ARS .
So funny I giggled most of the way through it....with people like that as members, who wouldn't want to join? !!!
As someone who has recently joined Audlem Parish Council (as I believe getting involved is the best way to help make a difference,) please can I urge fellow members of the community to do the same. There are a number of vacancies, so if you can spare just a bit of your time to help out with the many issues and projects that the council is trying to move forward, please get in touch. It's easy to make comments and pass judgement on decisions made, but to really make a difference, please get involved. https://www.audlempc.co.uk/news/could-you-be-a-parish-councillor.html
Very well said Jeff!!! I was going to post something similar but you beat me to it and said it better than I would. I'd love to know the answer/s to this.
And probably so would the driver who I nearly pulled out on who was coming from the Woore direction as I was trying to go to Wybunbury from Audlem.
I'd probably be useless in the 'Road Sign Putting Out Department' but I think I'd make a better job of it than whoever put the road signs out in question.
To Norman Huntbach. Ref to 'Dog Walks'
I thought that you had gone to ground as you have not responded to my 2 questions from 28th May 2021 and asked again on 4th June 2021. In your article 'Dog Walks' can you please advise to whom you are referring to when you write ' people get tired of pandering to people'?
Are you referring to the land owners being tired of legitimate walkers?
Recently I found my path (footpath) blocked by newly installed plastic wired fence. and I am unable to stand on a section as you have instructed is the correct thing to do.
What do you suggest that I should do?
I very much doubt the validity of your 'Instructions for electric fences'
Could anyone please explain to me why, when the A529 is fully open to Longhill Lane, Bridgemere Lane and the turn off to Walgherton and Crewe, Cheshire Highways have created an unnecessary issue on a number of locations by forcing the legitimate traffic on to the right-hand carriageway and therefore into the path of oncoming traffic. The signs in the road outside The Combermere are especially unnecessary and the signs on a blind bend just past the Bridgemere turn-off are dangerous. Do they deliberately try to inconvenience the public or are they just brainless?
Judging by the cost, were Michael Angelo or Banksy commissioned to produce the Turnpike Field signs?
£2000 spent on Turnpike and not a penny on Playing Field. Suppose that's about right for around here. Dogs more important than children. Suggest dogs should all go to Turnpike and leave the Playing Field for the children.
HOW much?
Loopy to have sanctioned this spending when the consensus on priority is parking.
Hi whilst I agree with both sides of the discussion
Re the new signs in Turnpike field .
I have to say at this moment in time I think
the council could have spent the £2000 they cost
On more pressing issues to do with the field .
One thing they could have done in conjunction with the public footpaths was to remove the stile at the top of the field and put in a gate allowing easier asses , the cost was around £350 they are keen to remove all stiles.
Also you cannot stop people walking bikes through the footpath as the council have no legal powers to do so . I would have thought signs pointing to the canal the picnic area would have be more friendly with the add on of please clean up your dog mess , do not light fires .
As for dogs only being allowed in the field perhaps another sign should go up warning badgers foxes cats squirrels etc to beware !!
As the grass is so long at the moment it's virtually impossible to find the dog mess .
If the car park is ever going to built perhaps the two clerks we are paying for should get the facts rights and advise council before wasting more of the rate payers money and perhaps suggest a priority list of what is really pressing and important with regard to Turnpike field expenditure .
Jesse,
Thank you for posting your story which means a lot.
Nigel.
