"Times have changed" said an earlier poster rather ominously whilst stating with absolute certainty that the vast majority of the village are not employed in the agricultural community. Can I suggest you think a little wider than "Farmer".
Within my friends and neighbours there is a Top Cheese Maker (you know who you are), Farm Advisors (3 living on the same street if you include me), HR specialist in a major local yoghurt company, warehouseman in another very local cheesmaker, banker (specialism Farms), Delivery driver....I could go on and on.
How many machinery and Dairy supply businesses are there locally supporting agriculture? Have a proper look in the business parks of Whitchurch, Market Drayton or Nantwich. You will find a wide community of local agricultural companies.
These local employers as well as the larger major food companies are not here by accident. They are an extension of the agricutural community into which we were either born – or in my case have chosen to live.
Hi, I was hoping to join Audlem running club on Saturday mornings. What is the run distance? and is it road or off road trainers?
Thanks.
I wonder if anyone can help in the village? I am looking for some eucalyptus to use to decorate Audlem St James's Church on the 9th August, the flower markets are not guaranteeing the quality of it and wondered if anyone has any growing in there garden which may need a prune. Please get in touch at ruscoeicke@aol.com if you can possibly help. Many thanks.
I thoroughly agree that agricultural vehicles should not be driven dangerously on any road, through villages or along the lanes. Like cars and lorries, they can be killing machines. Very often, field work has to be done before the rain arrives so there is the sense of urgency as farm staff consult the weather information hourly. There is a huge span of elderly farmers all due for retirement and it is hoped that the younger generation can fill their spaces. Recruiting farm staff is at the moment extremely difficult and we hear all the time that vacant jobs cannot be filled. "Can't get the staff" is a familiar grumble. Like the HGV companies, we have friends who have numerous lorries standing still in their yards, having full order books but no HGV drivers to get the chilled food to the supermarkets. This has never happened before. Lorries which are on lease hire have to be paid for but with no drivers it is a real dilemma and this results in
supermarkets are waiting for supplies. A similar thing is happening in the farming industry – dairy men are struggling to get milking staff, fruit growers are short of pickers and so it goes on. Please give the boys in their tractors a little consideration. Don't curse them, yes, they need to drive safely but they ARE getting your food from the fields to HQ's. If you meet them on the lanes, offer to pull in with a smile on your face, WE ALL NEED OUR FOOD.
Try KDE.ltd. www.kde-ltd.co.uk. We have used them for years both for plumbing and electrical work. Excellent work and they come when they say they will.
On behalf of someone else. Elderly couple living in Burleydam require assistance, mornings and afternoons. Must have experience with DBS certificate. Excellent rates of pay.
@Paul Cawood
Susan Bachelor, Andrew Carr and Beryl Cole have taken time to write on AOL of their concerns and recent experiences ref to Speeding Traffic passing through Audlem village.
You wrote 'We live in a village that thrives because of the agricultural community and those of us that work in it. It's sad that the normal movement of tractors and spreaders is perceived as being a threat'.
I note that you work in the agricultural community – I can assure that the vast majority of Audlem residents do not work in the agricultural community. Times have changed.
As you are an Audlem Parish Councillor, are your comments on this topic shared by the rest of the Audlem Parish Council?
Does anyone know a plumber in the area that can come and fit a shower?
Thanks
Jennie
Sorry – should have added, again hopefully to assist.
The agent named on the application indicates that my noise concerns are nothing to do with the planning and are to be taken up with licensing. Enquiries with Cheshire East licensing suggest no license has yet been applied for but often a planning application will come first and if successful will be followed by the licensing application.
Agree there may be some benefits.
However there will also be live music/disco in a tent until midnight. The sound will travel over a significant distance. The opening hours are given as 7 days a week 8am until 1am. The agent tells me that after midnight there will then be caterers/contractors packing away & leaving site until 1am – & inevitably up to 200-300 celebrating guests leaving site via the Audlem Rd. As the site is only a short distance from a huge number of residents and the village centre – and given that on the summer evenings you can hear a pin drop and traffic is quiet – I thought it only right to draw attention to that potential downside which would be permanent.
So sorry to hear about your near miss Beryl Cole and frightening experience with the tractor. @Andrew Carr is quite right about tractors being driven dangerously. As these machines and their attachments get bigger they are becoming a significant problem. In particular not slowing down to a sensible speed for their weight as they pass through the narrow parts. We were driving out of the village recently on Cheshire Street towards Nantwich and were forced to come to an emergency stop by a huge green tractor with an equally huge trailer attached that came onto our side of the road at full pelt to overtake parked cars on his side by the girl guide building. There were people walking on the pavement on our passenger side so we were left with nowhere to go and literally inches to spare as he sped off! My husband tried to get the number plate but there wasn't one attached to the huge trailer and the driver was gone in seconds, this left us shocked and upset.
A red Labrador was seen running across Heathfield Road and up Mill Lane this morning, think it was a male dog and wearing a collar. The dog looked very thin and scared, there has been a similar or the same Labrador running around the village on numerous occasions over last few months. Does anyone know anything about this dog ?
We recently had Huw Protheroe to fit 7 new internal doors. He did an excellent and very clean job, and he lives in Audlem. Phone 07931 526157
Thanks for the link to the above planning application, I hope this will help people to join me in supporting this venture. Good luck to this local family who have provided employment for Audlem people for years and will bring even more jobs and business to the area with this wedding venue.
@ Paul Cawood – I have no idea what proportion of tractors can speed (the reference to speeding is in the topic title that I replied to, there was no reference to speeding in my earlier comments). The bigger issue is the inconsiderate and dangerous way that SOME of these agricultural vehicles are driven. For example, 25mph in a 3 tonne tractor and trailer around a blind bend on Longhill Lane with a mobile phone glued to your ear is (in my perception) not a particularly considerate or safe way to interact with other road users.
@Andrew Carr, noted. Though what proportion of tractors can "speed" ? The vast majority cannot exceed 25mph / 40kph so how slowly would you like them to go ? They pose no more risk than the HGV's that transit through the village, and cannot go as fast, so perception seems to be relevant.

May I draw attention please to planning application 21/3505N – proposed wedding venue at The Parkes, Monks Lane. Includes an outside marquee with dancefloor from April through to September, capacity 200-300 guests, potentially until midnight but operating hours until 1am. Increased traffic volumes anticipated. A small number of the closest households/businesses received a consultation letter on Friday but this may be of wider interest, hence this post. Closing date for comments 4th August 2021.
