The August meeting of Burleydam W I took place at Belton Farm to see the cheese making business built up over many years by the Beckett family.

We were shown around the process by Ian Luxton the general manager, starting from the tankers binging in the milk from the 80 farms who supply them, to the temperature controlled loading bay where the cheese goes out to restaurants, shops and delicatessan all over Britain and also to America, Japan, Russia and France.

Chris Bradbury, the farms liaison manager, told us about his role in making sure that the 70 million litres of milk was of the required standard for cheese making and how following the introduction of a whey processing plant he was able to sell a by-product back to the farms to include in the cow's feed ration.

Each year the farm produces 7000 tons of cheese and we were given a taste of the award winning white Cheshire cheese from the International Cheese Festival at Nantwich Show in July.

Alison Taylor, the marketing manager told us of the many awards and trophies that Belton Farm cheese had won this year at major shows all over the country. We also tasted their latest new cheese called Red Fox, a development of Red Leicester, which was absolutely delicious.

We are very grateful to Belton Farm for this opportunity to learn about their cheese business.
The meeting concluded with lunch at Dearnford Lake
