Over the last year we have had several ladies in Audlem WI diagnosed with a variety of serious illnesses, but fortunately all of them have come through and been given the all clear.

One of our ladies, Christine Jenkins, wrote this poem and read it out to us at our last meeting. She was very seriously ill with a rare cancer, but we are delighted to say that she has pulled through so well.

The WI – by Christine Jenkins, Audlem WI

From little acorns big oak trees grow, and this is true of the WI THAT I KNOW.
What's it all about? Fun and sharing, friendship and caring, those first brave ladies were so bright and to all us women a leading light. A democratic bunch where all could meet, whether we come from a Palace or Ordinary Street.

So if you know anyone who seeks friendship and fun then to your WI they need to come. Because when I was ill and feeling low, the kindness of the WI began to show. Get well cards and gorgeous flowers that lifted my heart for hours and hours, the care and friendship that I found there, was wonderful and beyond compare.

It would also appear that Christine's strength and determination to enjoy a rich and fulfilled life have been passed on to her next generation as Christine won first prize in our October Competition to 'Nominate a women whom you think deserves a Gong!' She nominated her daughter Kristina with the following accolade:

'I nominate my daughter Kristina who fosters children and was a diamond when I was ill. She has adopted two brothers aged four and six who can be very challenging and already has a girl, Sarah, who has been with us at The Coach House for ten years.
She also has two children of her own. She works so hard and is intending to foster another child in the near future. I know she is my daughter, but she is an absolute star!'

Certainly a remarkable and dedicated family.
