What happened to the church steps?

Many feared that yesterday's fierce winds would cause damage in Audlem – the odd tree down and maybe some structural damage!

But nobody expected the ancient steps to St James' church to disappear during the storm. Whoosh – suddenly one moment they were there, the next they weren't. (You can click on the photo to enlarge it and see the result.)

But then again, rather than the storm, could there be another explanation? Exhausted by the three weddings on Saturday, are the church authorities making sure there's no repeat of all that pressure?

It certainly seems that Saturday's three happy couples only just made it to the church on time.
