Leighton Hospital

On Monday, after a busy morning, I took ill when I returned home. A bit of whatever, but my very good friend, Michelle, who was here along with her daughter Emmy – who cares for my house – insisted we go to see the doctors at Audlem. They could not see me until Thursday so we trundled off to A&E at Leighton. With much concern on my part as to how long this was going to take.

So, we drive off, me a passenger. Arrive at 13:30. Booked in and to the seats in the entrance area. Quite a few folks there awaiting treatment.

After an hour -- it stated a four hour waiting time -- we were led to have blood pressure tested and temperature. Pressure a tad high at 152 / 72. And temperature at 38.5. So not good.

More waiting, then called to have blood tests and an ECG. Trace was as previous ones with same history as I had for the implant of an aortic valve.

Then soon after to see doctor. Examined thoroughly. Questioned in depth. Reflexes ok. My back pain explained (have had it for 6 weeks or so which curtailed my activity during our big Festival last weekend).

So, sent to X-ray for back and chest .

Back to our room.

Urine test shows infection. Blood count OK .

X-rays show that at some time in the past, I had broken one of my lower vertebrae and it was now wedge shaped. Result!

So physio course to follow. Hope that our own famed Physiotherapist Phillipa will work her magic.

At all times I was so very impressed by the unhurried, calm, professional manner of all the staff there. My fears of long boring times in A &E foundless.

A great team of very professional staff dealing with such a wide range of health issues and under pressure.

Well done Leighton
